It seems to me there were a LOT of us in this community that never did make it to the month of april. I'm kind of curious as to exactly how many of us ended up with premature/preterm or late preterm babies? My baby came three weeks early on March 25th and I know there were quite a few others that went before even me. If you're willing to chime in and had your baby early I'd love to find out how many of us there really were. I feel like we broke the statistic scale in half!

Thanks to this community for all the support/advice through my pregnancy!

I gave birth to Sadie on April 19, at 8:23pm. She weighed in at 8lbs, 2 oz and is 21 inches long.

Unfortunately, I did not have the crunchy-granola home birth I'd been dreaming about since I was a teenager. I am however so so so grateful that I planned it, and that I had midwives...I have no doubt that things would have been worse without my AMAZING midwives.

i meant to post this a few days ago, but got distracted and then forgot lol but andrew is ten days old today... his umbilical stump fell off at six days and is healing up nicely, and his circumcision healed up a couple days ago. we've been having to make a few trips to the hospital to get his blood drawn for bilirubin checks, which he's been surprisingly tolerant of. his levels are going down (they were never at a dangerous number, but still a bit high), but he's still looking a bit yellow. hopefully the jaundice clears up soon! unfortunately he might've picked up a cold during yesterday's trip to the lab, which is not very fun. at least the lab tech was nice enough to do his PKU while we were there already getting his foot cut.

as for me, i'm recovering well. sometimes it feels like i didn't just have a baby, but then i have days like today where i'm ridiculously gassy from something i must've eaten yesterday, making my insides uncomfortably sore. my husband went back to work today so i'm on my own for a week... at least i have a handsome little baby to keep me company lol

Milo Asher Rhys McDermott
Born April 8, 2011 @ 3:57 AM
9 lbs 2 oz and 23 inches long

Full birth story to come when I have time. Basics: 4 hours of active labor, I was already dilated to 8 cm when the midwife walked in, 30 minutes of pushing. I expected him to be at least 8 lbs and very long but never in my life would I have believed he would come out over 9 lbs!!! He's just two ounces lighter than I was when I was born.

He was also born on my late Grandpa C's birthday exactly 90 years later.

Has been treating me very well. Taryn is an amazing baby and my husband has really surprised me this week. He has definitely gone above and beyond for me and I love him even more for it. TMI, but he asked to look at my private parts to see how I was recovering, and a huge blood clot fell out of me and onto the bed and he scooped it up, made a joke, and then helped me to clean up afterwards. I ended up with a 2nd degree episiotomy, and some additional tearing, and it's been INCREDIBLY painful recovery. I can barely walk, can't sit down, burns like hell to pee unless I lean forward, and I haven't pooped since Friday before I showed up the the hospital. The staff at St Johns was incredible to me and my family, I definitely have to get them out a card. I'm hemorraging more than my OB would like, and there is SOOO much blood, my OB wanted me to stay for at least an extra day for observation, but she called in and medicaid would only pay for 48 hours after birth, and my time was up unless we could pay out of pocket, which we couldn't afford, so we came home today. Taryn had her hearing screening yesterday, and got a 100% on the left ear both times, and a 0% in the right ear twice. They retested her this morning, and she again passed with flying colors in the left ear, and had a drastic improvement in the right ear. It had come from 0 to 90%, but since it wasn't at 100, she still failed in the right ear. She has an appointment with the audiologist this week. The on call pediatrician said she thinks that she has a lot of vernix trapped in that ear, and that it's just absorbing. I sure hope so. I could believe that, since overnight her hearing in that ear came up from almost nil to 90%. My husband returns to work tomorrow and i'll be mostly on my own with Taryn. Luckily, he works from home, but he works outdoors :( Taryn is such a good baby, she's almost always wide awake and hardly cries for a thing, even when she's hungry or wet, so you have to really pay attention to her. She's such a wide eyed and happy baby and she's only 2 days old!
